Recruiting Director Jono Zissi gives a list of questions that players looking to play at the next level should ask themselves as the high school season begins.

Do you have all of your ducks in a row? Ask yourself the following questions:

Have you been aggressively involved in a lifting and conditioning program, or were immersed in a fall sport?

Have you been doing skill building workouts- Wall ball, shooting, group or private lessons?

Have you been working on all of the things you are NOT good at? Have you stepped outside your comfort zone?

Did you play for a local club team against the best competition available to you?

Have you exposed yourself to new and different coaches in the offseason?

Did you participate in recruiting tournaments? If so, were they good events? What coaches attended those events?

Have you reached out to colleges you are interested in through email, introducing yourself, sharing a highlight video and informing them what events you’ll be at?

Have you talked to your club/HS coach about helping you get nominated for upcoming individual recruiting events? Have you researched which showcase events are worthwhile?

Have you made plans to get film from all of the fall/winter events you attended so you can make a legitimate highlight reel?

Have you communicated your college wish list to your High School or Club coach so he can reach out and advocate for you?

Have you been readying yourself for the SAT/ACT test that will ultimately make or break your chances at many schools?

If you are an underclassman, have you registered for a PSAT? A PSAT score helps move the needle in recruiting process by giving college coaches something to work with admissions on. A trusted gage of where you’ll fall on their band system.

Have you been working on your grades? Without the GPA, none of the aforementioned matters as much.

If the answer is “Yes” to all of these questions, good for you. You are on track with all of the small things. And as anyone will tell you, small things make the big things happen. If the answer is “No” to any of the questions, its important to remedy that now. This is a call to action…..its all about the process, you cant skip steps!

Make everyday your masterpiece and get busy living!

“Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habit. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.” (Lao Tzu)
